Site ChallengeA leading care home development company, responsible for 1 in 3 newly built care homes in the UK, contacted Polypump with a proposed drainage layout to be reviewed by our in-house pump experts. Due to the general nature of care homes, it was vital to offer a long-lasting solution to save down time and risk to public health. Typically care home sites tend to see a high level of ragging from the mix of wet wipes, adult nappies, and PPE. Over time with the mix of fibrous matter it builds up and evenly tires the pump. Long fibrous matter wraps around the cutter/ grinder / impeller eventually burning the pump out.

Site Solution

Taking into account the two floors comprising 66 bedrooms (all with ensuites) and the back of house facilities including the laundry area, sluice rooms for washing soiled linens, kitchen, and staff rest areas. Polypump was in a position to size and select a suitable macerator unit to protect the pump station. To ensure the system runs as it should, we offered a service plan to maintain the macerator, looking at wear on the teeth.

Polypump used a JWC 30K Open-channel Muffin Monster. The 30K Open-channel Muffin Monster fits within wastewater channels or can be affixed onto wet well walls at pump station inlets. In wet well applications, stainless steel mounting frames are custom designed and fabricated to meet the installation’s requirements.

Muffin Monster sewage grinders are available with unique Wipes Ready technology. It is designed to capture all wipes in the waste stream and shred them into small pieces that will not reweave to form ropes and ragballs in sewage systems.
